How to silence and acknowledge latched alarms on the Analox Ax60+

There are two potential reasons for the Ax60+ to show a FLT16 code on the screen, these are:

The sensor unit requires zero and span calibration adjustment (see the service manual for guidance on carrying out this process)
The CO2 sensor alarm directions have been incorrectly set.

If your unit is displaying a Flt16, first attempt a zero and span calibration adjustment then power cycle the device. If this is not possible or the issue is not resolved, check to see if it has been correctly configured as detailed below.

The Ax60+ is primarily a breathing air device, as such, the CO2 sensor unit alarms are restricted to only trigger in the ‘high-going’ direction. If a user changes the alarm ‘going’ to ‘low-going’ a FLT16 will ensue.

To clear this fault the following steps should be followed (be aware that only a short period of non-alarm time is available so you’ll need to be quick!!):

Power cycle the Ax60+ (turn it off and on again)
Wait for the sensors display on the screen
Press the Accept/Test button briefly to silence any alarmsPress and hold the top two buttons (Cancel and cycle) until the top level menu is reached.

Can the AX60+ Alarm Unit be mounted outside, and is it weather tight?

The Ax60+ Alarm/Strobe Unit is IP55 rated.

IP means Ingress Protection, the 2 numbers after indicate to what level the unit is able to protect itself against dust, moisture, liquids and accidental contact. The IP rating for this unit is broken down below;

5 – Solids – Dust Protected. Limited ingress of dust permitted. Will not interfere with operation of the equipment. 2 to 8 hours.
5 – Water – Protected against jets of water. Limited ingress permitted.

However, the unit is Not Waterproof/Weatherproof for long periods of time, and in direct sunlight the UV light will fade the label on the unit. The Alarm Unit can be mounted outside if it has sufficient protection from the elements.

CO2 monitoring & O2 monitoring with the AX60+

Each Ax60+ unit is scalable to meet the specific needs of the customer. Up to four analyzing sensors can be networked with the central monitoring station. The units can monitor for O2, CO2 or a combination of both gasses providing the flexibility most establishments need. Each sensor can handle up to four alarm units which respond with audible and visual indicators when the alarm setting is triggered.

Monitoring for CO2 (carbon dioxide) contamination in a workspace is as vital as monitoring simple O2 levels and often for the same reasons. The Analox Ax60+ uses state-of-the-art Nondispersive Infrared (NDIR) technology to monitor for CO2. This process uses infrared light to determine the intensity and level of CO2 in a given workspace.

The O2 monitoring system incorporates a lead-free electrochemical sensor that provides protection from potential O2 depletion caused by foreign gas elements such as nitrogen entering a workspace.

The Ax60+ also helps monitor for oxygen enrichment that can occur in workplaces that use pure O2, such as medical laboratories, fire suppression units and facilities using liquid nitrogen.

Oxygen enrichment happens when the content of the air in a building or room becomes greater than the normal 21 percent. When this occurs, there is a higher potential for fires as items that might not normally be considered flammable can catch fire.

There is a common misconception that if using carbon dioxide (CO2) in your facility you can stay safe by using an oxygen (O2) monitor.

CO2 is a toxic gas meaning that even at relatively low levels it can have dangerous effects on the human body. In the event of a CO2 leak, the CO2 will begin to displace the O2 in the area, however, O2 sensors typically have alarm levels set at around 19.5% and 18% so by the time the CO2 has displaced enough oxygen to trigger these alarm levels the CO2 levels will be dangerously high.

If using CO2, your safety monitor must be a CO2 monitor, this is critical so you are alerted to any leaks at levels which still give you time to take action to keep everyone safe. This also helps to save you money as leaks can be addressed early and in the current times of CO2 shortages, protecting this precious resource is key to any business.

Remember: You CANNOT use an O2 sensor to measure CO2 levels. CO2 levels become hazardous to life long before the CO2 displaces enough O2 for it to trigger an O2 alarm.
