Safe-Ox+

It is possible to have two relays trigger from one alarm, however, this would need to be configured at Analox.

It should be possible to connect an older repeater to a newer Safe-Ox+ unit as the repeaters are electronically similar throughout the Safe-Ox+ version history.

It is important to ensure that any differences in device labeling won’t lead to ambiguity and confusion. Also, a functions test should be carried out after installation to check that the repeater and main unit remain fully functional.

The procedure for adjusting the Safe-Ox+ alarm setpoints is very similar for setting Alarm 1 and Alarm 2.

1. Whilst the unit is switched on, enter technician mode by pressing the mode button 3 times. If entered successfully the green LED will flash off for 1.5 seconds and on for 0.5 of a second.
2. From technician mode, press the ‘Mode’ button 2 times to set Alarm 1 or 3 times to set Alarm 2. The buzzer will bleep on each press. If this is done successfully, the instrument will show the ‘Fault’ indicator and the appropriate ‘Alarm’ indicator. If this is done inadvertently, or if another mode is selected, press the ‘Mode’ button once to return to technician mode and then repeat this selection.
3. The display will indicate the present value of the alarm.
4. Press the ‘Mode’ button twice to define a new setting, or once to abort and return to technician mode.
5. Press and hold the ‘Mode’ button. The displayed value will count down. Release the button when the displayed value is equal to the desired alarm value.
6. Upon release of the ‘Mode’ button, the display will continue to show the new value. Accept the new setting by pressing the ‘Mode’ button twice, or alternatively ignore the new setting by pressing the button once. This will return to the technician mode.
7. To exit from technician mode, press the Mode button once. TheSafe-Ox+ then restarts by performing the normal power on sequence (4 flashes).

It is a relatively simple process to retrofit a relay unit to the Safe-Ox+ unit, but it is important to remember to ensure that your device has been powered down and disconnected from the supply before gaining access to the enclosure!

1. First gain access to the enclosure by removing the lid.

2. Drill an extra hole in the Safe-Ox+ enclosure base and fit a cable gland fitted.

3. Feed the relay cable through the cable gland and loop the wire around a ferrite ring twice and pull tight.

4. Terminate the relay wires in the JP13 terminal block as shown below:

5. Ensure the A50 PCB sits flat within the enclosure and that no wires are fouling the supports. Refit the lid and secure all cables by tightening the Cable Glands with a 15mm spanner (take care not to over tighten).

6. The relays are factory configured to operate as: Relay 1 – Alarm 1; Relay 2 – Alarm 2
Both relays operate in failsafe mode (ie. Energized in non-alarm condition)

It is not possible to change these settings unless the unit is returned to Analox for a configuration change.

The oxygen sensors used within the Safe-Ox+ are sensitive to mechanical shock. Readings that remain stable unless the device is tapped / bumped usually indicate that the unit has experienced a large mechanical shock (possibly dropped prior to installation).

The Safe-Ox+ device should be returned to Analox for investigation and repair.

Every gas monitor installation should be risk assessed. The correct location of monitors must consider the potential sources of gas leaks and the location of expected human occupation in the area. Where large areas must be monitored, we advise that no single monitor should cover a volume in excess of 80m3. The installation of more monitors should be considered where an area is complex in shape, filled with obstacles, has a lack of ventilation or air circulation, or if there are dead zones where gas can collect.

Assuming a device is used in a totally open area, there should be no more than 10 meters between devices. Each installation should be considered individually to account for the particular layout e.g partially enclosed areas, partition walls, obstructions, etc.

As a rule, Analox recommends theSafe-Ox+ device is proof-tested once per year (flow a challenge gas across the sensor to confirm it reads correctly). Calibration adjustment is unnecessary if your Safe-Ox+ reads correctly on the proof test gas.
